In 2009 Lexmark launched a new generation of wireless, WiFi enabled printers. Along with the physical hardware, Lexmark also developed a rich internet application that assisted the user with first time set up, on-boarding, as well as creating custom workflows for consumers and small businesses. The customer segments targeted for this new line of products were, professionals, small business owners and staff and students. The rich internet application was built using Flash Flex technology and required close collaboration with the hardware engineers in Lexington for design and development.

Experience Strategy: the first part of this project was spent with business and customer research to gain behavioral and transactional insights in order to create a robust set of personas and user tasks that captured the customer segments and their priorities.
Design Thinking: collaborative and co-creative workshops used the business, technology and customer research insights to ideate on and formulate the experience framework.

User Flow and Wireframes: the experience framework became the foundation for modeling the user flow, information architecture and final annotated wireframes
Post launch: the set up and work flow application quickly became a core component of the user experience and a strong selling feature for Lexmark’s new generation of wireless printers.
